Odori Park, by Chris Watkins Odori Park - A webcomic comedy of culture shock in love, life, and family, by Chris Watkins

I wanted to give a shout out (note for score-keepers: first time I’ve ever used that phrase) to Robert, the “Spilled Ink Guy,” over at SpilledInkCartoons.com. Robert saw fit to honor Odori Park (or soil his comic, take your pick) by sneaking a cameo of Colin into his latest Sub Blot strip. The comic will stay on the home page until Monday, and then appear in the archives, I believe. And you should definitely take a walk through those archives! (”I shall out-chess you with my superior skills!”)

Thanks a heap, Spilled Ink Guy!

A quick post to plug the great comic Woody After Hours, by Ben Carter and Paul Westover, which, on Monday, included a cameo appearance by yours truly (or, to be more precise, yours truly’s screenname). Reading disparaging YouTube comments attributed to my name is a wonderful change of pace from posting disparaging blog comments. :D Thanks, Ben & Paul!

I received a note at the beginning of the week from my friend and local ‘toonist Trevor Kent, creator of Kyoudaikido Soldier Chromacorps, that he’d been inspired by Colin’s recent forays into the martial arts to build an impromptu crossover into his comic. Check out today’s episode of Chromacorps, and see if you can spot any familiar faces. Enemies of good grammar, beware! Thanks, Trevor :)

Speaking of cameos, Timothy Dempsey of My Life in the Trenches surprised me over the Christmas holiday with his holiday card to webcomics, on which he’s planted Colin’s goofy mug. In full judo regalia, no less. Thanks, Timothy! What a fun surprise that was. I’ve tweeted about My Life in the Trenches before, but if you haven’t read it, please check it out!

A reminder, if you’re in the western New York state area: Please come out to the Festive Book Sale & Signing, at the Fairport Public Library, on this Saturday, December 3rd, from 2 to 4pm! (Click here for location and direction information.) You can wrap up some holiday shopping for your favorite book lovers, while meeting and supporting little old me. What’s not to love? :)

Also, here are a few fun places Odori Park has cropped up recently:

  • In October (shame on me for not seeing this earlier), local journalist, writer, and comics aficionado David Wheeler blogged a nice bit about OP, after chatting with me at the Canandaigua Comic Con. One of the nicest guys I met that weekend. Thanks, Dave!
  • Brock Heasley, superstar creator of The SuperFogeys, was interviewed a couple weeks back at fantopro.com, wherein he referenced me and OP on a short list (also including Krishna Sadasivam of PC Weenies and Uncubed, and David Reddick of Legend of Bill–humbling company!) of artists whose work he enjoys. Thanks for the shout-out, Brock!
  • Our favorite Sprout made a surprise cameo over in Mike Donohue’s comic The Cow, running away from what appears to be a man-bat-clown-magician. (Good call, Sprout.) Loved it, Mike–thanks!

Is it really December already? Get back here, November! I wasn’t done with you yet!

A heads-up for the keen-eyed: David Wilborn has included a slew of webcomic characters in his pre-Halloween Urban Jungle comic. Go have a look! There’s somebody familiar in the background. If you’re an avid reader of webcomics, see who else you can identify.

Thanks for the trick or treat, David!
