There’s theory 4: The events are a series of unconnected coincidences which, due to human’s needing a narrative, have been linked in the minds of the two?
Or theory 5: The incidences were semi-connected (e.g. man forgot unbrella, small animal found umbrella in way so piled into books, etc).
I’m for Theory 5.
