  1. John K

    now that just sounds gross

  2. George

Oh, I would try that. I went to the sushi bar for the first time a few months ago, and my wife was impressed (repulsed?) by the fact that I tried EVERYTHING from mussels to squid to octopus. :)

  3. Chris

You’re my new hero, George (not that you weren’t before). :)
John, you should take a tip from George! It grows on you! Or, at least, clings to the inner lining of your esophagus…

  6. SpilledInkGuy

Be right back … gotta’ run to the lobby real quick! :)

  7. speearr

Oh man that sounds delicious! What’s it called in Japanese so I can google it?

  8. Chris

Now you guys are making me chuckle :)
    speearr, it’s a “takoyaki.”
    (Honestly, they are good.)

  9. Spencey

Did somebody just say Dried Fish Shavings? Be still my aching tastebuds! Haha!

Like George above, I went to a sushi bar in Glasgow for the first time, a couple of months ago. I was OK with the smaller bits of fish, in fact they were quite tasty, but as soon as I had a large bit of raw fish in my mouth I couldn’t stop thinking about what I was eating! Yeesh! I did really like the powerful mustard stuff they had but I can’t remember what it was called. It just about blew my brains out of my skull though! :)

  10. Whitey

    HA! I love it.

  11. speearr

    Takoyaki - got it!

  12. Chris

Spencey: Yeah, now that I think about it, cats must live the high life in Japan. Fish products abound! I think acclimating to sushi for some folks requires a stepped process :D Oh, and I think you’re talking about wasabi. (”The cool heat,” as cans of wasabi peas say.)
Whitey: Thanks! I thought you might dig this one :)
speearr: Sometimes you can find them frozen in Asian groceries, fyi ;)

  13. M.Carroll

I blame anime honestly, every time I see some new food there the next time I’m at the chinese grocer in town I look to see if they have it just so I can try it. I buy various types of fish balls in bulk and use them in various things and I love my firm tofu fried up with a bit of dried kelp and some soya with my breakfast.

  14. Chris

    You’re making me hungry!
Welcome to the site, by the way :)

  15. CyberSkull

    Sounds good to me.

  16. alecho

    Hey! That is Takoyaki!!! Awesome!

  17. Crash

    Your takoyaki is very cute.
