Oh, I would try that. I went to the sushi bar for the first time a few months ago, and my wife was impressed (repulsed?) by the fact that I tried EVERYTHING from mussels to squid to octopus.
You’re my new hero, George (not that you weren’t before).
John, you should take a tip from George! It grows on you! Or, at least, clings to the inner lining of your esophagus…
Did somebody just say Dried Fish Shavings? Be still my aching tastebuds! Haha!
Like George above, I went to a sushi bar in Glasgow for the first time, a couple of months ago. I was OK with the smaller bits of fish, in fact they were quite tasty, but as soon as I had a large bit of raw fish in my mouth I couldn’t stop thinking about what I was eating! Yeesh! I did really like the powerful mustard stuff they had but I can’t remember what it was called. It just about blew my brains out of my skull though!
Spencey: Yeah, now that I think about it, cats must live the high life in Japan. Fish products abound! I think acclimating to sushi for some folks requires a stepped process Oh, and I think you’re talking about wasabi. (”The cool heat,” as cans of wasabi peas say.)
Whitey: Thanks! I thought you might dig this one
speearr: Sometimes you can find them frozen in Asian groceries, fyi
I blame anime honestly, every time I see some new food there the next time I’m at the chinese grocer in town I look to see if they have it just so I can try it. I buy various types of fish balls in bulk and use them in various things and I love my firm tofu fried up with a bit of dried kelp and some soya with my breakfast.
